snowboard

Picked up a new (used) board. I originally wanted a Burton Custom, and looked around for one, but everything snowboarding is crazy priced over here. New Burton boards are in the 700-800 range, and year end models are half of that. I was thinking of just getting one when I go home for a week in december, but then again buying boarding stuff in Hawaii is pretty expensive, and I'd have to carry it home. Decided to get on Yahoo Auctions (japanese ebay), and look around. Some of my students suggested getting a japanese made board for some reason. They said that Japanese boards are better or something, so finally found a board that won't be the same as everyone else on the mountain. It's a November R-edition 156. Directional and stiff. Must be in the same class as a Custom, so I can't wait to try it out. Hope it dumps this year. Last year was pretty sad.

The Custom was my first board and the best one I ever rode. Yeah, prices are crazy over there. My wife got a Burton setup in Japan several years ago and it was over a thousand bucks.

seriously? I was really thinking about picking one up on ebay, and shipping it hawaii, then lugging it back to Japan when I visit for xmas. Didn't know if they would charge me for having two check-ins, so just sprung for a board in Japan. Full Burton setup=thousand bucks easy. Then you need wear, then lift tickets. . .bleeding yen over here.

November! I was looking into Japanese brands for awhile too. But then I read about banana tech and I really wanna try out those boards. I hope I can save enough to get one late winter!

Yeah, my friend told me about the skate banana. Went down to ochanomizu searching for one, but they're fricking expensive. Looked at the rails, and they are like. . .curvy or something. They're not straight. Interesting concept though. Couldn't drop the 800 on it.

yeah, the banana's with the magne traction rails are popular over here too. i would've bought one if i knew i would be riding more this season. the burton wholesaler over here has good deals...usually 40% off whatever 2009 stuff they have left. maybe we should buy some and sell em in japan...might make enough to pay for the plane ticket.

what you did with the board i gave you?

40% off? What craziness. 07-08 stuff must super cheap. Yup, all burton stuff is pretty expensive.

I still get the board. Still going strong. haha. How many boards you get now?

yeah, too bad i never know you needed one board earlier. i could've gotten you one vapor for $600 and you could've sold em over there for twice that! maybe that's what we should do...i wonder how much shipping to japan would be?

i gave away one other board, so i get 3 that are functional. i pretty much only ride 2 though.

i don't know how much to ship. maybe like 40 bucks or so. How come you get so many boards? Park/powder/all around?

the seven was a park board, but the base isn't sintered so it doesn't absorb wax...only good for cold days...sucks on warm slush. i got one x8 last year to replace it as one park/all around board. the other board i get is one ride from about 6 years ago. buggah is pretty trashed.

gave away my powder board...was too long. if anything, i may get one skate banana, but probably not till end of season when they're on sale.
