Old people smell

They definitely have a scent, don't they? What is that scent anyway? Yesterday, I was on the train, and an old dude sat next to me. I didn't look at him right away, but I knew right away that he was an "old dude." The scent came wafting over as soon as he sat down. It's pretty universal, too, I think. I mean, in Hawaii, I'm sure the "old dudes" smell the same as they do over here.

I wonder what the young people smell like. . .and the middle aged people like me. Do we have our own smell? The old dude sitting down might have been like, "middle aged dude scent around here."

I never really noticed the people smells before, but here in Japan everybody is all cool with being up close and personal on the train and indoors. The train get ridiculously crowded at certain times of the day, and there just is no room for personal space. You could be caught in some pretty compromising positions if you don't think ahead. It gets kinda strange for me sometimes.

When I used to live in Tochigi, the stations are really far apart, so there is a good 5 minutes between stations. The sounds of the train, the scenery outside, the quietness inside (people don't talk that much on trains), all these things can put you to sleep in two minutes flat. Sometimes people would fall asleep, and since everyone is so close to each other, they start slumping right or left and eventually end up on the shoulder of a stranger. I would be reading a book, and suddenly feel weight on my shoulder, look over and there's someone sleeping there. Doesn't happen so much in Tokyo because the stations are all close together, so not much time to fall asleep.
